......
SAE: I have two completely different SAEs. My first one is Veterinary Science; I work at Cumberland Animal Hospital as a part time employee where I assist the veterinarians with different medical procedures needed to care for the animals. My other SAE is Agricultural Communications; I focus a lot on this because I want to major in Ag Comm in college. I write agriculture-related articles for our local newspapers, maintain our chapter's websites, and help to create monthly chapter newsletters to keep our members and student body informed on what our FFA chapter is working on.

Beach or Mountains? Mountains

Early bird or night owl? Early bird

Favorite meal: any meal at Cracker Barrell

Favorite song: Happy by Pharrell

Favorite CDE: I have participated in a wide variety of CDEs, from Dairy Foods to Ag. Comm., but my favorite CDE is definitely Extemporaneous Public Speaking. I was introduced to this CDE the summer before my sophomore year at Camp Clements. I was terrified of this competition until after I completed my first speech, and then I gained a respectful obsession with the thrill of preparing and presenting a speech all within a few minutes. I also enjoy challenging myself to stay informed on Agriculture Issues in order to compete with more knowledgeable speeches.

Favorite Ag Class: Even though I loved my Honors Leadership & Communications class, my favorite Ag class would be Livestock Management. Since I had a very limited agricultural background before joining the FFA this class helped me gain a lot of basic agricultural knowledge when it comes to the animal production side of agriculture. This class also got me involved in the Dairy Cattle Judging CDE where I learned about giving reasons and evaluating livestock. I definitely gained the most knowledge from this agriculture class.

Describe a time when you set a goal within the FFA and were not able to meet it; what did you learn? My junior year I competed in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking CDE. I won the district competition which was really exciting because typically Wilson Central dominates our district for public speaking CDEs because they always have AMAZING speakers. However, I was blessed enough to come out on the top of our district. When I went to sectionals to compete, I went in with my head held high and a healthy amount of self-confidence, however, after the results were publicized I found out that I had gotten fourth place. I was disappointed in myself and felt defeated, but after losing this competition it drove me to work harder for other goals I was working towards in the FFA to ensure that I would succeed in them. I began focusing on state convention and preparing for regional office. Overall, I was able to improve my work ethic so that I would be more likely to achieve the goals I set for myself.

What are you looking forward to most during your year as a Regional Officer? Laughter, Growth, and Service. These three words describe what I constantly strive towards in the FFA. As a Regional Officer I want to build relationships with FFA members in Middle Tennessee; through these relationships I hope to have fun times, good memories, and share lots of laughter. In the FFA, members constantly have the opportunity to grow. I am looking forward to helping young members grow in our organization and I'm also looking for myself to grow by gaining experience as a regional officer. However, most of all I'm looking forward to a year of service! For the past three years, advisors, officers, and FFA supporters have served me and helped me to be the best I could be. Now it's my turn! I cannot wait to serve all of Middle Tennessee FFA during 2014-15, and helping the members of our organization to build a strong foundation in the FFA.

SAE: My Supervised Agricultural Experience involves owning and managing a lawn care and landscaping business in partnership with my brother, Mitch. He and I started Baker Brothers Lawn Care seven years ago to earn money to purchase show lambs and our Jeeps! My Jeep is yellow and Mitch's is red!

Beach or Mountains? Beach

Early bird or night owl? Night owl

Favorite meal: Watermelon, watermelon, watermelon

Favorite song: Don't Think Twice It's Alright, Bob Dylan and Tennessee, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors

Favorite CDE: By far my favorite Career Development Event is Extemporaneous Public Speaking! I've always really enjoyed public speaking contests and the "thinking on your feet" aspect of the extemp CDE. Now, if you were to ask me what my favorite competition is, it's no competition at all - I absolutely love the FFA quiz bowl at FFA camp during the summer! I love that competition for 2 reasons; the rich FFA history, and the awesome buzzer that you get to play with!

Favorite Ag Class: My favorite Agriculture class is Ag Mechanics! I love learning how to do new things! I'll admit that I am terrible with engines, but my passion for learning a new skill drives me to consistently take Ag Mechanics!

Describe a time when you set a goal within the FFA and were not able to meet it; what did you learn? My freshman year I competed in the FFA Creed Public Speaking Career Development Event. I was thrilled with the opportunity to represent my chapter for the very first time at the district level! I had practiced and practiced and knew that I was capable of doing really well! The night of the competition comes and as usual, I was extremely nervous. Due to my lack of confidence (and this is very typical Nick) I forgot to deliver the 4th paragraph. Needless to say, I placed last. While this was a crushing defeat, I have a very distinct memory of what I thought driving home that night, "An experience is never a failure if you can learn or draw something from that experience." I learned that night to not second guess myself and to trust the abilities that God has blessed me with.

What are you looking forward to most during your year as a Regional Officer? I'm very excited to get to know the members of the Middle Region better! Being able to serve the FFA members is why I wanted to become a regional officer! I want to be able to develop leadership skills in the members I meet and I want to become a better leader myself! I look forward to the Greenhand Conference where I will get to know out newest members! Helping new members get their FFA career off to a strong start is very important to me.
