SAE
: Swine Production
Favorite CDE:
I have competed in numerous CDEs, but my favorites are livestock evaluation and land evaluation. I especially enjoy livestock evaluation because it gives me the opportunity to use knowledge I have gained through my SAE. I enjoy any chance to work with livestock. I enjoy land evaluation for many reasons. I like this CDE because it allows me to work as a team and grow with other members of my chapter. I think that this CDE is different because it gives competitors that opportunity to work outside.
Favorite Ag Class:
My favorite ag class is Plant and Soil Science. This class allowed me to become familiar with components of agriculture I was not involved in. I was able to work daily in my chapter's greenhouse and learn about crop production. This was a nice change from livestock. I am thankful that this class informed me about many forms of agriculture.
Describe a time when you set a goal within the FFA and were not able to meet it; what did you learn?
Through my SAE of swine production I set many goals for myself. One time that I did not achieve a goal was at the 2016 TN State Market Hog Show. I worked with my pigs everyday in hopes that I could place in the Showmanship portion of the show. At the show my pigs became uncooperative and I did not make the final cut. The next year I worked even harder. All of my work paid off as I placed 3rd in the state. This experience taught me that through perseverance and dedication you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
What are you looking forward to most during your year as a Regional Officer?
I am looking forward to many things during my year of service to the Middle Region. I am especially looking forward to connecting with members throughout the region. I hope that I can have the chance to impact Middle Tennessee FFA. I am also looking forward to growing as a member and person myself. I feel that the opportunities I will be given this year will allow me to transform with Middle Tennessee FFA.
