SAE: Agricultural Communications & Agricultural Education

Favorite Ag Class: My favorite ag class is leadership development and communications. Not only was this my first ever ag class, this was my first ever class of high school in general. I walked into that room on the first day with little knowledge of the agriculture industry and no idea of where I would fit in the next four years, but I walked out on the last day with a love for FFA, agriculture, and service. In this same way, hope to encourage our region's members this year to find their passion within the FFA and to see themselves as the leaders they truly are.

Describe a time when you set a goal within the FFA and were not able to meet it; what did you learn?  Speaking of my favorite CDE, the most difficult challenge I've had to face within the FFA occurred during my second year competing in prepared public speaking. In my first year, I was honored to represent Middle Tennessee at the state contest in Gatlinburg. As a result, I went into the next year with confidence in my message and even more motivation to go for the gold — but I ultimately failed to move past the sectional level. Honestly, I was heartbroken and had lost much of my self-confidence. However, the experience reminded me of something much more important: we as FFA members are not defined by a CDE or a title. It's an honor to receive pins and plaques, but at the end of the day, we as FFA members are known by the message and ideals we uphold. I will forever be thankful for this humbling experience, the people I have learned from as a result, and the opportunity I have to empower others with it.

What are you looking forward to most during your year as a Regional Officer?  This year I am so excited for the opportunity to shine a light on all of our region's members! Our region is truly diverse on a number of levels, and from this diversity, we draw an immense amount of strength. Every time I am able to meet new members across the region, I am always impressed and enlightened when I hear all the stories they have to tell and the unique message each member has to communicate. From Greenhand Conference to CDEs, I can't wait to see all the our members will learn and accomplish within the next year and beyond.
